Nayelly was an active 20-year-old who suddenly experienced unexplained ankle swelling that kept getting worse and worse. She underwent biopsies, MRIs, and x-rays and she was finally diagnosed with pigmented villonodular synovitis or PVNS. It’s a joint disease where inflammation and overgrowth of the joint lining causes the area to become swollen and benign tumors grow. After a long battle to fight the disease, including chemotherapy, she decided to amputate her leg.
