Almost 5 million Americans have their wisdom teeth removed every year, and most of them are kids. A University of Michigan study found that dentists were the leading source of opioid prescriptions for kids ages 10-19 years old. Could this common dental surgery be contributing to the opioid crisis? Oral surgeon Dr. Steven Kupferman shares that opioids are often not necessary for the majority of these procedures and there are many medications that are not opioid-based that can be used post-oral surgery.
