Meet Premature Twins Born with Potentially Fatal Holes in Their Heart

Jamie went into labor with her twins at 24 weeks. She had an emergency C-section and her twins who were born 4 months early both weighed just under 2 pounds. Because they were premature, Jamie shares her son and daughter were both born with holes in their heart or patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). Pediatric cardiologist Dr. Martin Bocks of University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s was able to use the pea-sized Piccolo device to block the hole in their hearts, making Maverick and Everly the first preemie twins to receive this procedure. This groundbreaking procedure spared the twins from having open-heart surgery. After sharing how scary her delivery was, Jamie admits that she never thought she was going to be able to take her twins home from the hospital.
