Some cities are banning dollar stores as a way to hopefully curb rising obesity rates. Critics claim the extreme discount stores lead to the closing of grocery stores with fresh produce, and they may saturate poor neighborhoods with cheap over processed foods. Dr. Nita shares that in 2019 they did a study looking at food deserts and they looked at what people were buying vs. what they were buying after a grocery store moved into the neighborhood and found they were not making better choices.
