“If we learned anything on this show, it’s that children with Down syndrome should be celebrated for the unique characteristics they bring to life,” E.R. physician Dr. Travis Stork says.  “We should not normalize them.”

Down syndrome is a genetic disorder that occurs when children are born with 47 chromosomes instead of the usual 46. Pediatrician Dr. Jim Sears participates in the Buddy Walk to raise awareness for the disease.

More and more older women are having babies. The 40+ set is at increased risk for birth defects such as Down syndrome. Dr. Sears Sr. and actor John C. McGinley share their experiences with the chromosomal disorder.
