The Doctors share the story of a man from the UK who uses hearing aids. He made a routine visit to his audiologist and both he and the doctor were stunned to find 22 hearing aid filters lodged into his ear canal! The Doctors share the zoomed-in video of the otoscope removing all of those filters from his ear.
Ear, nose and throat specialist Dr. Andrew Ordon explains the man has age-related, sensory neural hearing loss, presbycusis. The filters are meant to be put on top of hearing aids to help filter the ear wax so it doesn't disrupt the aid but with all those filters in his ear, they were blocking the eardrum making his hearing issues even worse! Apparently, the man just wasn't putting the filter on the aid appropriately so they just kept falling off into his ear.
The Doctors show another image of the 22 removed filters to illustrate how tiny they are but even so, they find 22 pretty unbelievable!
