The Doctors share a photo that may look like a tin of chia seeds but it is actually more than 4,000 gallstones removed from one patient in one procedure!
The surgeon spent over two and a half hours removing all of these miniature gallstones. Prior to surgery, the patient was experiencing some abdominal pain and was also taking antacids assuming some of her symptoms were from indigestion.
Plastic surgeon Dr. Andrew Ordon explains gallstones can vary greatly in size, and because these were so small, the patient probably had mild to moderate symptoms for years as the body was producing these small stones. He says with very large gallstones someone can get extremely sick and it can even be life-threatening. If you experience abdominal pain, get it checked out!
