A Brazilian woman allegedly spent half a million dollars to look like Kim Kardashian! Plastic surgeon Dr. Andrew Ordon shares that this woman had “four ribs removed, two breast augmentations, two nose jobs, cheek and lip fillers, veneers, a facelift, and a Brazilian Butt Lift.”
Dr. Ordon says cosmetic surgery may be the answer if someone has one thing that bothers them but if you are totally unhappy with your entire self, there is something else going on inside. Celebrity culture and the influence of social media is just putting fuel in the fire.
The Doctors agree that other doctors have an obligation to tell patients “no” in these circumstances. “To the surgeons operating out there, they should reevaluate their own ethics for doing these procedures,” says Dr. Ordon.
Dr. Ordon says each time this woman does a procedure, she is putting herself at risk for complications. The Doctors discuss a similar situation with a man who has performed plastic surgery to look like a Ken doll. Gastroenterologist Dr. Jorge Rodriguez was visiting Australia and saw this man getting recognized and treated like a celebrity. This man is putting his life in danger though! Dr. Ordon says he is a walking time bomb because there is a good chance one of the implants he has put into his body could get infected.
The woman who wants to look like Kim Kardashian has said that she “hopes her look can inspire other women to know that they can be both attractive and successful.” Dermatologist Dr. Sonia Batra points out that there is such a disconnect between her stated intent and how it’s coming out. “This is dysmorphic disorder, when you don’t see yourself realistically the same way everyone else does.”
Dr. Batra says this woman had so many red flags; she had 9 surgeries in less than 24 hours after her boyfriend died! The Doctors all point out that there are underlying psychiatric issues at play and this woman should seek the help of a mental health professional.
