A study conducted by the Journal of Food Science reportedly found that drinking coffee causes the taste buds to temporarily change and lessens one's ability to taste sweetness. The study also reportedly found that caffeinated coffee can also cause you to crave sugar after drinking.

The reported need for something sweet could lead some to enjoy a pastry or some other carb-heavy item along with your coffee and this could lead to weight gain.
