Travis talks about the importance of keeping an open mind during these turbulent times to help understand one another with his good friend, Barry’s Bootcamp owner & fitness trainer, Antonio Compton. As a gay black father who grew up in an interracial family in a small town in Indiana, Antonio shares his previous struggles finding his voice as a gay man and coming to terms with his sexuality.
Antonio shares that becoming a father at just 20 years old was one of the biggest events in his life that made him who is today, and the second biggest event was navigating coming out as gay. He shares that he didn't have a lot of support in his community and didn't really know how to be authentic.
Antonio also discusses how he grew to feel proud of being black, and how now is an important time to really have hard conversations. In his quest to become authentic, open and transparent in his life, Antonio talks about what it means to live during this unprecedented movement and uncovers strategies to help build a bridge between all races, and Antonio feels he's in a unique position as a biracial gay man to help bridge those gaps.
The pair discusses how as we evolve, how each of us can become more empathetic towards others and how to best keep an open mind. Listen to their entire open and honest conversation.
