The Doctors discuss how researchers created a doll named Emma, which illustrates how working at an ergonomically unfriendly space can affect the body. The doll has a hunch back and limbs that are swollen, which they warn could happen to those who sit for too long.
The panel notes how using smartphones has caused many of us to hunch over and look down at our devices for many hours during the day, and explain how this can pull down on our spines and cause one's posture to slouch. In addition to posture concerns, according to The Mayo Clinic, sitting for too long can increase someone's weight, along with causing high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol levels.
Of course, there are times when you are required to sit, but we encourage everyone to avoid slouching in your chair, sit up straight with your spine in a comfortable position and make sure you are getting up at least 1 time every hour.
