More tips to avoid face mask breakouts from Dr. Shirazi include:
- Clean your face before putting on your mask and she says to use zinc or sulfur-based soap to reduce acne bacteria. She also glycolic or salicylic acid toners to exfoliate the skin
- Spray your mask with a glycolic solution before you wear it
- Do not use heavy oils on the face because it can lead to clogged pores, instead she suggests using a light, non-comedogenic moisturizer
