Nearly every man has experienced shrinkage when it is cold and The Doctors explain why.
A viewer wrote in asking, "Why does a penis shrink in size in the cold?" and ER physician Dr. Travis Stork explains, "Any time you're in the cold, blood flow shunts to the major organs."
Plastic surgeon Dr. Andrew Ordon says there is a good reason why the body reacts this way to cold temperatures.
"It is a protective mechanism. The body wants to keep that part of a male's body warm, so everything retracts," he says, going on to explain that sex organs are brought in closer to the abdominal cavity in order to keep them warm.
Dr. Ordon adds that a temperature drop below 60 degrees can result in a shrinkage of 50 percent "down there."
