Is obesity contagious? The Doctors discuss a recent study that found people are more likely to be overweight if they lived in counties with high rates of obesity.

The University of Southern California looked at how military families, who do not always get to choose where they live, were more likely to be overweight or obese if the area they lived in had more people who were also obese or overweight. The study found that kids were 4 percent more likely to overweight or obese while living in these areas.

"You mirror the behavior of your social circles," OB/GYN Dr. Nita Landry says, explaining that she thinks the findings of the study make sense. 

Clinical psychologist Dr. Judy Ho notes that military families tend me to more social than other families and could easily adopt the habits of people they are surrounded by.
