The Doctors look back at Tevante, who said he was teased and bullied his whole life for being overweight and then was able to make an amazing life change. He told us his weight struggle began in fifth grade and said he noticed that his classmates treated him differently.
“I’d go home and cry about it, eat and cry about it," he recalled. "I didn’t really want to look in the mirror at all. There wasn’t really anything good to look at.”
By the time he was in high school, he told us he weight 395 pounds and said at one point he considered taking his own life as his depression had consumed him. With the help of his mom and friend Dominique, he began to make major life changes like incorporating exercise into his daily life.
“I started gaining more confidence,” Tevante explained. “Self-esteem went through the roof. Two years went by. Everything in my life has changed" He was able to lose a whopping 225 pounds, but was left with excess loose skin.
With the help of plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Brian Coan and his team, Tevante underwent a lower body lift and breast reduction to address his loose skin and joined The Doctors after his surgery.
"I've got a lot more confidence and I'm not scared to try [clothes] on... I can do whatever I want to now," he shared.
