If you’ve been drinking, this story will make you think twice about cooking while under the influence! A 64-year-old man was allegedly “CUI” (cooking under the influence) and while searching for kitchen utensils, fell over towards the kitchen counter, and pierced his eye on a panhandle!
It took a team of surgeons to remove it and The Doctors invite expert eye surgeon Dr. Brian Boxer Wachler to comment on this case. Dr. Boxer Wachler shares how lucky this guy was! “He must have a horseshoe up his butt to come out of this with no vision loss,” jokes Dr. Boxer Wachler. Amazingly, the handle missed his eye as well as his brain. It got lodged behind the throat where there are no vital structures.
ER physician Dr. Travis Stork asks Dr. Boxer Wachler what the evaluation for this guy must have been like after the removal and asks if there were any corrective surgeries. Dr. Boxer Wachler shares that apparently there weren’t any surgeries and the guy made a full recovery!
Dr. Travis notes the man did something smart in that he didn’t try to remove the handle on his own. He advises viewers if ever impaled, let a professional try to dislodge the item. Dr. Travis asks Dr. Boxer Wachler if he has any similar tales from the E.R.
Dr. Boxer Wachler shares the story of a boyfriend who accidentally shot a blow dart into his girlfriend’s eye. The dart actually punctured the eye, went through the eye and came out the other side, getting lodged by her sinus. Her eye was basically pinned so she couldn’t move it, but after the dart was removed, there was no damage and she ended up with 20/20 vision!
