The Doctors look back on our health intervention with Honey Boo Boo and Mama June and share an update on the reality TV family.
When we first met the family, ER physician Dr. Travis Stork shared his concerns about Honey Boo Boo, whose real name is Alana, and how what she was eating might be affecting her health and possibly put her at risk of developing life-threatening illnesses.

We examined Alana's daily diet, which included a pre-packaged breakfast bowl high in salt, yogurts high in sugar and fruit drinks, which were also are high in sugar. At the time, The Doctors revealed that Alana's height and weight put her in the obese range.
During the show, Mama June told The Doctors that she felt her daughter's medication for her asthma was contributing to her weight.
“It’s not her steroids that are causing her to be obese,” Dr. Travis said during the discussion. “It’s the foods she’s eating.”

To help Mama June and Alana learn more about healthy food choices, The Doctors arranged for a pediatric nutritionist to meet with the family at their home and for a personal chef to teach them how to cook healthy foods. We also had registered dietitian Jeanne McDaniel visit the family, where Alana was encouraged to engage in a half hour of exercise every day - but Alana did not lose any weight.
During a second visit to The Doctors, Mama June insisted that the plans put in place for Alana were followed. At the time, Dr. Travis said he felt that Mama June was not being honest with him, but explained that he was still rooting for her and her daughter.
*Update
ER physician Dr. Travis Stork shares an update on the family, saying, "Since being here, Mama June has lost over 300 pounds and now stars in the WEtv series, 'Mama June: From Not to Hot,' which does feature daughters Alana and Pumpkin."
