Last year, Lamar Odom sat down with The Doctors for an exclusive interview about his 2015 overdose in a legal Nevada brothel, reports of alleged subsequent relapses and his time spent at a 30-day in-patient program at Casa Palmera in Del Mar, CA. Now, The Doctors are happy to share an update on the progress Lamar has made since his appearance.
Before seeking treatment Lamar told ER physician Dr. Travis Stork that he was not even aware that he had been in a coma until his famous ex-wife Khloe Kardashian revealed to him that he came close to death.
“I didn’t know until… Khloe had told me that I was in a coma. I couldn’t even speak at the time. I couldn’t talk. Nothing would come out when I would open my mouth. So, I was scared,” he revealed.
The star athlete returned to The Doctors after his stay at Casa Palmera and shared, “I feel good, I’m great. I’m living, I’m sober. Hopefully a long life ahead of me… I think the most important thing that I took away from [rehab] is that I’m stronger than I give myself credit for being. I think I surprised myself.”
He explained to us that his loved ones, especially his children were instrumental on his path to recovery. “I think the turning point for me was when my kids got to come up and I got to do some therapy sessions with my kids. I think that was the part that helped me and it came just in time too because that’s where my breaking point almost came… I was just worn out mentally,” he previously said.
And as for why sobriety is different now, Lamar shared, "When I went into treatment before I was a boy. When I left treatment [this] time, I left a man. It was a spiritual journey for me as well, to find my higher power and become closer to him.”
Dr. Travis shares an update on the athlete since we last saw, saying, " Lamar Odom has been working hard on his sobriety and recently joined forces with his ex Khloe Kardashian to create a fashion line inspired, he says, by everything he has been through in life."
