How to Survive Divorce - Tips from Celebrity Divorce Attorney

The Doctors welcome celebrity divorce attorney Laura Wasser, who has negotiated the divorces of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, and Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, to discuss her tips on surviving a divorce.

"People get extremely emotional when they are going through a divorce. It is devasting, it is frustrating, it is scary," she says, explaining that often feelings of sadness and fright are in involved. She feels that if you can remove those emotional elements from the business of a divorce you will be in a much better position to handle the process.

She says she tries to encourage her clients to remember the love you had in your relationship when things get to a point of anger during the separation, especially if there are children involved.

Laura, who is also the founder of the online divorce resource It's Over Easy, says that she is not sure if there is ever a "good divorce," but feels the process can be easier and simpler when done online. She hopes the online service will help people of all types of income levels go through the divorce process in a more cost-effective and amicable way.

She explains that often parents begin a divorce saying that they want what is best for their children, but often the kids are used as pawns in the split. She says to discuss what works best for you and your former partner and to remember that custody can always be modified. She also notes that most judges prefer children to spend time with both parents.

The celebrity divorce attorney explains that she feels the main reason people split is due to the couple growing apart and do not communicating as they are growing apart. As for divorcing with dignity, Laura suggests having the respect and consideration for your former spouse that you might not have had in your marriage can lead to a better co-parenting and post-divorce relationship.
