The Doctors meet Darlecia, who shares the story of her senseless attack while at her job at a gas station. A man she had never seen before lured her into the restroom and then stabbed her multiple times. Darlecia called her daughter, Kristian, and then 911. Kristian showed up to the station soon after the paramedics. Darlecia says her emotional spirit and her faith helped her stay calm which she believes prevented things from getting worse.
Darlecia's huge gashes were all over her sides and abdomen, as well as on her face. Luckily, she survived and thanks her daughter and 10-year-old granddaughter for giving her hope as she went into surgery. Unfortunately, the attacker is still at large, and Darlecia has to live with the trauma as well as the physical scars. “I would never want anyone to suffer such a vicious attack. It’s life-altering. I’ll never be the same,” she says.
Plastic surgeon Dr. Andrew Ordon pulls up an image to demonstrate the nerve damage that Darlecia has suffered from the laceration along her face. He explains that damage is the reason she is having trouble chewing, smiling, and with overall movement. “I used to say I had a brilliant smile,” shares Darlecia. The Doctors want to help her get that back.
