It might be all the rage on social media, but is hair dye for kids safe? The Doctors weigh in!
Dermatologist Dr. Sonia Batra feels that due to many hair dyes containing hydrogen peroxide, ammonia, and bleach she does not recommend any permanent hair dyes until after puberty and preferably until someone is 16 or 17 years old.
Some safer alternatives that she recommends are:
- Hair extensions, which are not permanent and will not damage hair
- If your child wants the dyed hair, she suggests using semi-permanent temporary types
She also suggests not dying their hair at the roots and to also test out the dye on the inside of their arm first to make sure they are not allergic.
