You might not have realized just how much we owe to bees! The Doctors welcome beekeeper Erika Thompson and she discusses how so much of our food is dependent on these insects.
The professional beekeeper, who works with the insects without gloves, notes that most honey bees do not want to sting. She explains if she were to wear gloves it would cause her to lose dexterity and mobility, which is vital when working with such tiny and important creatures.
In addition to honey, bees play a major role in our lives which you might not be aware of. "They are incredibly important to our ecosystem, they provide a lot of diversity. They are also important to our food system," Erika explains. "Bees are responsible for pollinating 1 out of every 3 bites of food we eat. There are some crops that are solely dependent on bees.
She adds, "Without bees, our grocery store and our world would look entirely different." See more of Erika's amazing work with bees on her TikTok.
