Playing Prevent a Cold with Oregano Oil?

Actress Emily Blunt reportedly touts oregano oil as her secret to nip a cold in the bud fast. The Doctors put some droplets into some water and give it a try. “It’s like a slice of pizza when you go overboard with oregano!” exclaims plastic surgeon Dr. Andrew Ordon.

Psychotherapist Dr. Mike Dow comments that oregano is great for your brain and it has proven anti-inflammatory properties. OB/GYN Dr. Nita shares that it has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties but there is no research that says it helps viruses and a cold is a virus.

“Emily, I like you, I love your movies, but we’ve got to give it a bust!” says Dr. Ordon. The Doctors suggest getting a solid night sleep, having a good diet and exercise regimen, and having stress management tools in place as ways to boost your immune system and avoid colds. Dr. Dow recommends meditation and says for 10 – 12 minutes when you meditate your cortisol goes down and your immune system goes up. He adds that it’s also free, unlike the $10 bottle of oregano oil!
