It is nearly time to spring forward and set our clocks ahead by 1 hour for Daylight Saving Time -- which can take a serious toll on some people's sleep schedule.
On March 14 at 2 AM, Daylight Saving Time begins for most of America (minus Hawaii and Arizona), and for some people, this could lead to sleeping in too long and waking up and not feeling rested after the switch.
Getting good sleep is so important for our health, especially for our brains! But learning how to let the day go and truly get the rest you need can be a challenge. Here are some sleep tips The Doctors recommend:
- Have a consistent sleep schedule if at all possible
- No caffeine after 2 pm
- No alcohol three hours before bed - and not too much to drink, because that will steal your Zzs
- Get 15 minutes of sunlight every morning.
Also, there are some good rules about beds and screen time to consider. If you need to be on your screens at night, consider using blue-light-blocking glasses.
But how do you know if your sleep problems might be tied to your mattress? As a general rule, mattresses last around 5-10 years. Does your mattress feel lumpy? Do you wake up sore? Do you sleep better when you stay at a hotel? If yes, it's likely time to replace yours.
Don't know what kind of mattress you need? Find out what kind of sleeper you are.
The month of February is the perfect time to get shopping because all of the mattresses are on sale for President's Day, but most sales are extended through the end of the month.
