Getting a baby or infant to sleep through the night is no easy task, something “The Real Housewives of Orange County” alums Gretchen Rossi and Slade Smiley are unfortunately all too aware of.
The Doctors welcome the hosts of the "Knot Too Taboo" podcast and sleep doctor Dr. Michael Breus to share tips on how they can help their daughter, 15-month-old Skyler, sleep better. They tell us Skyler will often want to stay awake and want to play and will end up crying. The parents say they disagree on the best approach, whether to let her "cry it out" or to go to her when she is not sleeping.
Dr. Breus explains if the child is able to sleep somewhere other than their bed (like in their parent's bed), this usually rules out a physical issue for the sleeping problem.
As for the "cry it out" method, Dr. Breus is not in favor of this approach. "If it doesn't feel right, then you really shouldn't be doing it," he says nothing it causes stress for the parents and he does not feel it is healthy for the child. He explains teaching the child how to self-soothe would be a better use of time.
Gretchen and Slade are going to work with Dr. Breus for the next few weeks and report back on their progress.
