he woman reportedly gave birth to her babies via Caesarean section, with her 82-year-old husband by her side. The twins are the first children for the couple, who say they tried to conceive in the past but were unsuccessful. The woman reportedly got pregnant through IVF. The new mom, who went through menopause 30 years ago, says she was inspired by he neighbor who conceived at 55.
Is this pregnancy a medical miracle or an ethical disaster?
OB/GYN Dr. Nita Landry notes the women did not use her own eggs and explains if a woamn her age is given hormones it would be possible for the her uterus to carry a fertilized egg.
The Doctors also note the woman had to spend 9 months in the hospital and had 10 doctors caring for her and question if someone of that age should be carrying a child, due to the possible health risks. Dr. Nita feels that in America, no IVF clinic would impregnate someone this old.
