Board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist Dr. Jennifer Ashton makes her debut as a recurring co-host of The Doctors on Tuesday, October 15! Ashton joins ER physician Dr. Travis Stork, cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Andrew Ordon, pediatrician Dr. Jim Sears, urologist Dr. Jennifer Berman, family medicine physician and sexologist Dr. Rachael Ross and physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist Dr. Ian K. Smith.
Best known to TV viewers as the senior medical contributor for ABC News' Good Morning America and World News with Diane Sawyer, Ashton is an award-winning physician and journalist and former co-host of the ABC daytime TV series The Revolution. She takes great pride in breaking down the barrier between doctor and patient. Affectionately referred to as "your all-in-one 'BFF'/OB-GYN," Ashton combines an unparalleled medical background with a relatable "girl's girl" attitude; speaking just as easily about the latest beauty, fashion and parenting trends as she does about important women's health concerns.
Hailing from a family of six physicians and one nurse — and married to a thoracic surgeon — this wife and mother of two possesses a uniquely well-rounded understanding of the human body that often incorporates the best of Western as well as non-Western medicine. Leading by example, Dr. Ashton can often be found training for triathlons or following the advice she's given to others in her book, Your Body Beautiful, a comprehensive approach to vitality, beauty and health for women 30-50 years of age. She is also the author of the award-winning book The Body Scoop for Girls, a head-to-toe guide for teenage girls.
“Each appearance Dr. Ashton has made on The Doctors over the years has resonated with our viewers. That, combined with her expertise as both a personal physician and a medical correspondent, makes her a perfect fit for our show,” creator and executive producer of The Doctors Jay McGraw says. “We’re continuing to provide the gold standard of health and wellness information on television, which Dr. Ashton has dispensed throughout her career.”
“My passion has always been to break down the barriers between doctors and patients and help people become engaged in their own health,” explains Dr. Ashton. “There’s no other show which delivers as much valuable and trustworthy health and wellness information every day, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
A graduate of Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, where she was elected class president four consecutive years, Ashton has also served as administrative chief resident at St Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York, where she was awarded the prestigious Chief Resident of the Year Award upon completing her training. She is also the president and founder of Hygeia Gynecology in Englewood, NJ. In addition to her private practice, in which a full 50 percent of her patients are teenage girls, Ashton is currently enrolled in the Columbia University Institute of Human Nutrition Master’s Degree program in Clinical Nutrition, which she anticipates completing in 2015.
