Seasonal allergies affect 35 million Americans. Ear, nose and throat specialist Dr. Andrew Ordon and allergy specialist Dr. Robert Eitches share four tips to control your sneezing, coughing and watery eyes during allergy season.
1. Avoid engaging in outdoor activities between 5 and 10 a.m., when pollen counts are typically highest.
2. After being outdoors, shower and wash hair to remove pollen that may have come in contact with your body. This can help prevent it from transferring to clothing and furniture.
3. When allergy symptoms start, Dr. Eitches recommends taking 24-hour, non-drowsy Claritin every day as long as triggers remain.
4. Follow label directions when taking medication and consult your doctor with any questions about your health.
