USA Weekend and The Doctors are joining USA Today to launch the annual Family Fitness Challenge, a program specifically formulated to inspire families across the country to eat healthier, shape up and lose weight.
The Family Fitness Challenge was designed with input from several national obesity and weight loss experts to help families improve their fitness, weight and overall health. After hundreds of submissions, six families were selected to be featured in the Family Fitness Challenge.
To assist them on their journey to better health, each family will be paired with an exercise professional from the American College of Sports Medicine and a registered dietician from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
"It's an opportunity to inspire families across the country to really learn about the best ways that they can make the healthy choice, the easy choice," explains nutritionist, exercise physiologist and USA Today spokesperson Felicia Stoler.
"If trends continue, more than half of Americans will be obese by the year 2030," E.R. physician Dr. Travis Stork says. "That doesn't include those that are in the overweight category, and it's time that we take charge."
