From diet to exercise, you might consider yourself fairly healthy, but are you considering all aspects of your overall health? One viewer, John, wants to know what he can do to support his brain performance. He is a husband, a father, and works as a general contractor. He says he exercises and eats healthy but wants to know if there is anything else he could be doing.
Dr. Hyla Cass, who is a spokesperson for the brand Neuriva, joins Dr. Batra, to share some tips on how everyone can help support their brain health and performance.
"Our brain is the most complex part of the human body. If you are juggling a demanding job and family, like John and Alysha, and many of us are, you want to make sure you're supporting your brain," Dr. Cass says.
Here are ways to help:
Tip #1: Avoid Multi-tasking
Stay focused on the information that you are trying to retain. This can help you recall it later.
Tip #2: If You're A Morning Person Do Most Difficult Tasks First
Use the morning to do the tasks that require full concentration and then save the easier ones for later when you might not be at your peak.
Tip #3: Be Physically Active
Being physically active increases blood flow to your brain and can help with brain function.
Tip #4: "Work Out" Your Brain
Engage in mentally stimulating activities like crossword puzzles, take alternate routes when driving, or learn how to play a musical instrument. These can all help keep your brain in shape.
Download Neuriva's Brain Gym app to help with your brain work out! It uses scientifically based exercises and training to help assess and track your progress.
Tip #5: Practice Mindfulness Exercises and Meditation
Practicing mindfulness exercises and other types of meditation have been found to help with focus and concentration, which are two indicators of brain performance. These activities keep your mind present which helps to prevent distractions and improve focus.
Tip #6: Eat a Plant-Based Diet Rich in Green Leafy Vegetables and Berries
Studies have found that eating this type of diet can contribute to brain health. Avoid saturated fats, sugar or too much salt, which can all harm brain health.
Tip #7: Consider a Nutritional Supplement
Neuriva is a new brand of brain health supplements specially formulated to support brain health to help your brain's performance. It fuels five indicators of brain performance: focus, memory, learning, concentration and accuracy. This supplement has two clinically proven ingredients: decaffeinated coffee cherry extract, which comes from the nutrient-rich fruit of the coffee cherry, and plant-sourced Phosphatidylserine, similar to what makes up the structure of neurons, or nerve cells, within the brain.
Neuriva is available at Walmart stores nationwide!
As always, talk to your doctor before taking any supplements.
