Tamara, a photographer who was a makeup model when she was younger, says she is now experiencing uneven skin tone, sun spots, and wrinkles. She says she is scared of injections and surgery and is looking for a less invasive way to repair her skin.
Dermatologist Dr. Tess Mauricio joins The Doctors and Tamara to talk about skin ages and what Tamara can do to look her best.
"Unfortunately, aging is something we can't change, but as you know, we can slow down the aging process and change how we care for our skin," Dr. Mauricio says.
Tamara tells us she is constantly outdoors in the sun while working. She says she uses sunscreen every day and does not understand why she is still getting sunspots and wrinkles.
Dr. Mauricio and The Doctors share that sunspots are areas of damaged skin which are a result of your body's defense mechanism against the sun. When the skin is exposed to UV rays, more pigment is produced, which makes the skin darker in order to protect your deeper skin layers from further damage.
Dr. Andrew Ordon explains that sun exposure can age the skin and notes as we age the skin begins to thin and the elastin and collagen loosen and unravel. He says this can lead to a loss of firmness, wrinkles, as well as dull skin. Dr. Nita Landry says there are other contributors to Tamara's aging concerns, like repetitive facial contractions, which Tamara does while taking photographs. Dr. Landry says this can causes lines in the forehead, between the eyebrows, and crow's feet.
Dr. Mauricio adds that your skin's response is dependent on your skincare regime. She has teamed up with No7 and recommends that Tamara try No7 Lift & Luminate Triple Action Serum. She explains that the serum contains concentrated ingredients which can penetrate deeply into the skin to repair it.
It is available at Walgreens and Walgreens.com for under $35. A study, conducted by No7, found the following results regarding this serum:
