Social media is everywhere, but does it need to part of your 6-year-old's life? Facebook has launched Messenger Kids, which is meant for kids ages 6 to 12 years old.
The standalone app is controlled by a parent's account, but The Doctors question if someone this young should even have access to something like this.
Dermatologist Dr. Sonia Batra, who is a mom to an 8-year-old and a 10-year-old, says, "I think this is a terrible idea." She worries about the privacy concerns noting that the child's full name and date of birth are inputted and any of the content shared on the app is saved by Facebook.
"We have enough screen time to monitor as parents already," she says, recommending that if your young child wants to communicate with other family members to use your phone as you supervise.
She also worries about the possibility of cyberbullying or the child sharing inappropriate or personal information on this app. The Doctors note that parents do have control over the settings and functions of the app.
