After her abuser’s death, she’s gone on to make a new life – but her disfigured face is a reminder every time she looks in the mirror. “I see a victim,” she says, “and I want to see a survivor.”
Facial Surgeon Dr. David Alessi takes cartilage from Donna’s ribcage to replace her lost septum. He creates a new interior structure to give Donna's nose support. “Everything actually turned out very nicely for her,” he tells The Doctors.
“I get to truly start over now,” Donna says.
“One of the best things when this happens is that people can finally look at themselves in a different way,” says ER Physician Dr. Travis Stork. To celebrate her transformation, The Doctors send Donna to photographer Cristen Geller at CG Studios for a photo shoot.
Cristen pampers Donna with a makeover and a glamorous photo shoot. “It was a pleasure and a blessing to work with you,” she tells Donna. Cristen joins Donna and The Doctors to present her with a keepsake photo book of her pictures.
Face Forward founder Deborah Alessi explains, “Face Forward is about giving back and helping others.” Even before her reconstructive surgery Donna was already volunteering and helping other survivors. “We felt it was high time to make her a survivor and not a victim!” adds Deborah.
As a final gift for her new look and her new start, Donna receives one more surprise -- Adrianna Papell has provided her with a $2,000 new wardrobe!
“You can see it on Donna's face -- it is possible to smile again,” concludes Dr. Stork. If you or someone in your life is struggling with abuse, don’t give up hope – seek help.
