Is tequila the next kombucha? The Doctors take on the idea that's been circulating that tequila is a great source of probiotics. Before you head off to the liquor store, here are the facts.

Tequila is made from the blue agave plant, and yes agave is known to be a good source of probiotics. Also, the blue agave plant contains sugars that have been shown to lower blood-sugar levels & reduce appetites in lab mice. Sounds pretty great, right?
Sadly, these sugars are not present in tequila. And the probiotic properties of the agave are lost in the distilling process in making tequila. Plastic surgeon Dr. Andrew Ordon suggests, "How about a shot and then a little yogurt." ER Physician Dr. Travis Stork likes the idea calling it "yo-quila."

Does that mean you shouldn't enjoy some tequila every now and then? Go for it. But will it help regulate your gut? According to The Doctors...this rumor is too good to be true.
