After having children and gaining and losing weight, Sandra began to feel self-conscience about her sagging breasts. She says she wanted her “natural breasts lifted and put back where they were.”
She went to a surgeon she had heard advertised on the radio. Sandra said she told the doctor she wanted small implants, but he used much bigger implants, pushing Sandra to a DD cup size. Later, Sandra discovered the doctor was not a trained plastic surgeon.
When Sandra expressed concerns about her implants to her gynecologist, the doctor said she could put in smaller implants. But after the reduction surgery, Sandra still had oversized areolas and had developed thick scar tissue. She later found out it was the first breast reduction surgery the doctor had ever performed.
“Now, every morning I have to face this horrible disaster in the mirror,” Sandra says.
After doing extensive research, Sandra sought out board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn to try to restore the natural appearance of her breasts.
Dr. Youn performs a procedure to take out Sandra’s implants, remove the excess scar tissue, reduce the size of her areolas and lift her breasts.
Sandra says she is doing much better after the surgery.
“I have my self-confidence back," she says. "All I ever wanted from the beginning of this nine-year ordeal was just to have my natural breasts put back where they were.”
OB-GYN Dr. Jennifer Ashton says before surgery, you should ask your doctor what his or her specialty is and how often he or she has performed the procedure.
“It’s pretty simple,” plastic surgeon Dr. Andrew Ordon says. “You go to a surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.”
Surgeons who are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery must undergo at least three years of general surgery training and two years of plastic surgery training, as well as pass written and oral exams and adhere to a strict code of medical ethics.
“Even when something is as botched as your first multiple surgeries were,” ER physician Dr. Travis Stork says, “there are still great doctors out there, like Dr. Youn, Dr. Ordon, who, in many cases, can get you back your figure, your life, your self-esteem.
