Playing Condition Causes Extremely Enlarged Breasts

A woman who has a rare condition called gigantomastia that caused her breasts to balloon to more than 30 pounds shares her story. Karisha says the condition has affected her physically and emotionally. She has experienced back pain, back spasms, neck pain and migraines. The condition has made it difficult for her to run, jump, ride a bike and do other “normal things that people do.”

“I can recall going to the doctor thinking that I had a heart condition,” Karisha says. “You don’t realize that the weight of your breasts is actually pressing down on your chest wall.”

Plastic surgeon Dr. Andrew Ordon explains that gigantomastia is a condition that causes a woman to have enlarged breasts that weigh at least 10 extra pounds or 3 percent of her total body weight. It’s not clear what causes the condition, but hormones likely play a role.

After being diagnosed, Karisha went to see plastic surgeon Dr. Franklin Rose, who recommended that she have about 85 percent of her breast tissue removed.

See how Karisha looks after the breast reconstruction surgery and hear how her life has changed since having the surgery.

“My self-esteem is soaring right now,” she says. “Basically, I feel normal when I walk into a room.”

The Doctors surprise Karisha by giving her a matching bra and underwear set by Adore Me each month for a year.
