Playing Mom Credits The Doctors for Diagnosing Daughter's Disorder

Melissa, a married mother of four, shares how watching a 2012 episode of The Doctors helped her diagnose her 1-year-old daughter, Olivia, with a neurological movement disorder called dopa-responsive dystonia.

Melissa is now a firm believer in trusting her motherly instincts. “There was a reason I was watching The Doctors that day,” she says. “The doctor that we were going to … he tested for [dystonia], but he was doubtful that I could have found this story and, pretty much, diagnosed her ... but I was right.”

Within a week of starting Olivia on a medication to treat the disorder, she began to show signs of improvement, and she continues to meet the developmental milestones that she had missed.

To reward Melissa for being a loyal viewer, The Doctors surprise her and her husband with an all-expenses-paid getaway to Marco Island!
