Twenty weeks into her second pregnancy, Stephanie was diagnosed with placenta previa, a condition in which the placenta covers the cervix. Stephanie says that shortly after the diagnosis, she began to have visions of her own death during childbirth. Convinced that something was wrong, she persuaded her anesthesiologist and surgeon to take extra precautions when she went in for the C-section delivery of her son, Jacob. These precautions became essential when Stephanie’s heart suddenly stopped mid-surgery.
Stephanie was clinically dead for 37 seconds before her quick-thinking doctors were able to revive her. She then underwent an emergency hysterectomy and was placed in a medically induced coma for six days to allow her body to recover from the trauma.
Stephanie joins The Doctors, along with her husband, Jonathan, and now 8-month-old Jacob, to share her harrowing story.
