In a The Doctors exclusive, Teen Mom star Maci Bookout sets the record straight about her reported “mystery illness” that made national news. Over the next two days, however, her illness progressed and became increasingly painful. "I wasn't even able to eat an ice cube without vomiting," Maci says. "The only thing I could do was lay in bed. I was on my phone, and I started tweeting about how I just felt terrible and was in very serious pain, and the next thing that I know, it's all over the news that I have some 'mysterious illness.'"

Maci knew she needed to seek medical attention, before her symptoms worsened even more. "I couldn't wait any longer, because things were only getting worse, and it really was out of control," she says.

Maci was admitted to a hospital, where she underwent further screenings. She received several blood tests, one of which showed that her white blood cell count — crucial for fighting off infection — was highly elevated, despite the initial antibiotic she received two days prior. Doctors suspected she had appendicitis, but more testing was required to determine the cause of her debilitating pain. After undergoing a CT scan, Maci was finally given a diagnosis.
