You Can’t Shock Your Doc
In a recent poll, 47 percent of participants said they ignored a health problem just because they felt embarrassed. “Trust us, you can’t shock your doc!” ER physician Dr. Travis Stork says. The Doctors share their tips for an easier doctor-patient relationship:
• “Be totally honest at all times with your doctor, that’s your job,” plastic surgeon Dr. Andrew Ordon says. “Our job is not to be judgmental. There’s no problem we haven’t heard.”
• “Be a regular. Keep your yearly checkups and annual visits. The better your doctor knows you, the better he or she is going to [be able to] treat you,” pediatrician Dr. Jim Sears says.
• “Prepare to strip and bare it all!” OB-GYN Dr. Lisa Masterson says. “I see a bunch of [lady parts] every day. Don’t be embarrassed, this is what we do.”
• “Tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth,” Dr. Travis says. “Share what’s taking place no matter what.”
• Choosing the right doctor.
• Why you shouldn't lie to your doctor.
• Making doctors visits fun.
