Lessons in Lifeguarding
Southern California is renowned for its sunny beaches, which span 72 miles of coastline; however, the ocean can be dangerously unpredictable, requiring well-trained lifeguards to maintain a steady watch, in addition to a healthy physique. Nationwide, patrolling lifeguards were responsible for saving more than 63,000 lives in 2011, including approximately 10,000 on the beaches of California. Statistics from the United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) show that the chance of a person drowning while attending a lifeguarded beach is roughly 1 in 18 million.
Healthy Meals on Wheels
Los Angeles is known for many things including its eclectic variety of food, and the city’s ever-expanding food trucks are no exception.

Green Truck’s founder, Mitchell Collier, explains how their sustainable business on wheels is all-local, with produce that is hand-selected from top farmers and farmers markets throughout the Los Angeles area. As an added environmental benefit, some of the oil used to fry foods is recycled and turned into biodiesel to fuel the food truck.
