Whether you’re newly dating or married for decades, The Doctors unlocks the mysteries of the opposite sex!
He Said, She Said
From gynecologists and massage therapists to personal trainers and nannies, do couples have the right to insist which gender their partners should be choosing?
Illustrating Gender Differences
E.R. physician Dr. Travis Stork shows an optical illusion where two women -- one young and one old -- can be seen inside a single image.
“Interestingly, most men will see the young woman while most women will see the older woman,” he says. “The reason – to see the older woman requires more attention to visual detail. In general, women’s vision is more specialized for seeing more than meets the eye.”
The Doctors explain why men tend to tune things out when it comes to requests from their partners.
"In general, men tend to use their left side of their brain more than their right side,” OB/GYN Dr. Lisa Masterson explains. “The left side is more correlated with math and logistics, whereas the right side is more creative [and] intuitive.
“Men don’t have as much of a verbal capacity as women do,” she adds.
“But men’s brains aren’t changing,” Dr. Travis says. “So you, if you want to be heard you have to get his attention. Sometimes if we get distracted, we can’t multitask.
“And men, give your woman your full attention. When she’s talking to you, focus on her and you can avoid many problems.”
Male vs. Female Brain Scan
Corie and Patrick say they’re like a lot of couples out there: He’s logical, she’s emotional, and being on either sides of the spectrum has put stress on their relationship.
With the help of cutting-edge 3D brain technology, brain imaging specialist, psychiatrist and author of Change Your Brain, Change Your Body, Dr. Daniel Amen, takes a look into Corie and Patrick’s brains to make sense of their differences.
“The 3D spect scan looks at [the] function [of the brain] and is pretty easy to understand,” Dr. Amen explains. “It looks at areas of the brain that work well vs. areas of the brain that are low in activity or high in activity.
“The difference between male and female brains is that female brains work and work and work and are always thinking, and men just want to be left alone,” Dr. Amen adds.
While the 3D spect scan can help people understand differences between genders, it can also help create specialized treatments for people suffering from anxiety or depression, as it can pinpoint which areas of the brain are affected.
