Ever wonder why you’re going bald? Pattern baldness in both men and women is caused by hormones, but there are other roots, as well. Stress and excess weight can cause hair loss due to the extra insulin in the body.
Twenty-five percent of men begin balding by age 30, and 65 percent go bald by age 60. Similarly, 25 percent of premenopausal women suffer hair loss as do 38 percent do of postmenopausal women.
How Financial Crises Affect Health
Sure, the current economic crisis may be hurting your wallet, but be careful; it may also be hurting your health.
Stress and the “doom-and-gloom attitude” related to financial hardships can cause health problems such as heart attacks, strokes and even cancer.
How can you keep the economic crisis from hurting you physically? Plastic surgeon Dr. Andrew Ordon says to just “chill out, relax, get exercise, play with your pet, whatever it takes to get that blood pressure down and get that pulse down.”
Even a simple hug or kiss can help release relaxing hormones. Talking about the stresses in your life, especially with a spouse, is also a healthy outlet.
The body releases “heart-thumping hormones,” such as adrenaline, when under stress. Excessive adrenaline and stress can be harmful to the heart and body. Even seemingly harmless activities like watching sports can create stress.
The Doctors advise that during times of high stress and crisis, try to control the stress as best you can by controlling how you treat your body by exercising and eating well.

Don’t Sweat It
Sweating is normal, but too much can be embarrassing. Such is the case for Jennifer, 21, who says she sweats excessively, which causes bad body odor. She has tried all different types of deodorants, but found that only men’s deodorant work.
Jennifer says that her father and sister have the same problem. She and her husband, Steve, are looking for a solution.
Dr. Ordon examines Jennifer and performs a Botox treatment that curbs sweating issues by injecting Botox into her armpits. The Botox inhibits the sweat glands by affecting the nerves going to the sweat glands that make the sweat gland muscles contract. The treatment lasts about three to six months, and needs to be repeated for lasting effects.

Adriana from Toluca Lake, Calif., is worried that her boyfriend gave her crabs, and wants to know what she can do to treat them.
Crabs, or pubic lice, attach themselves to pubic hairs and lay their eggs. An adult louse will feed off the human blood by inserting its mouth into small blood vessels in the skin. Symptoms of pubic lice include: intense itching, lice in the pubic hair, lice eggs on the hair shaft and genital lesions due to bites. Crabs can be passed on through sexual activity or close contact, and are very contagious.
To treat crabs, you can use over-the-counter lotions and shampoos that work on head lice, such as Nix or Rid. Grooming the pubic region can limit the space the lice have to live. Also, make sure to wash contaminated items such as bedding, clothing and towels, and clean the floors and furniture. If the shampoos do not kill the lice, see your doctor about other treatments.
The Great Coffee Debate
Legendary entertainer Ed McMahon asks The Doctors if caffeine is good for headaches, and The Doctors agree that in most cases, caffeine can treat most headaches, including migraines, but you must be careful of having too much caffeine daily.
Richard tells The Doctors about his coffee-addicted wife, who can drink up to 26 cups a day, and worries about health risks. Dr. Lisa says risks of excessive caffeine consumption include high blood pressure and in some women, a decreased breast size. Dr. Travis says good alternatives to regular coffee include green tea, carob powder and caffeine-free herbal coffee.
Prostate enlargement concerns many men. Urologist Dr. Michael Safir explains that as men age, the prostate increases in size, which can lead to the obstruction of urinary flow. Some options for men with enlarged prostates include:
• TURP (Transurethral resection of the prostate) -- TURP has been the main option for a long time, and is performed by inserting an instrument called a resectoscope into the urethra through the penis. The procedure requires days of recovery time in the hospital, and has a risk of bleeding and permanent erectile dysfunction.
• Greenlight PVP -- This is a laser treatment that achieves what the TURP did, but does so more safely. It vaporizes the prostate tissue on contact, takes about 45 minutes to complete and patients can usually go home the same day catheter-free.
• Go for a digital rectal examination and have a PSA (prostate-specific antigen) screening, which helps identify prostate cancer early on. PSA tests measure the amount of prostate-specific antigen in the blood.
• Dr. Safir has recommended his patients eat more soy products, such as edamame beans, soy milk and tofu, because he believes they can help prevent an enlarged prostate.
Roughly 46 million people in the U.S. have arthritis. Though the exact cause of the ailment is unknown and there is no cure, doctors have found that diet plays an important role in pain management.
Diets high in saturated fats found in steaks, butter and creams increase inflammation in the body, which can cause pain, swelling and joint destruction. A diet low in saturated fats but high in Omega-3 fatty acids, which are found in fish and certain nuts, may actually have an anti-inflammatory effect on the body and thus decrease pain.
