Ups, Downs & Plateaus

I haven't reported a weigh in recently as I've been a bit frustrated with the scale.  I keep bouncing between 190 and 192 for the last two weeks.  That is good, don't get me wrong, considering I started at 234 I'm really happy with my progress but I would like to see a number in the 180's soon!  I do find that when I am about to register a loss the scale does seem to do that bouncing around thing so I'll keep plugging away.  On the bright side, my waist, thigh and upper arm are all down another half inch each.  I've lost a total of 6.5 inches off of my waist and 5 inches off of my hips, which makes me very happy.  The waist measurement in particular is a big success, that is the area I was most concerned with as it relates so much to overall health, diabetes risk, heart disease etc.

I do have to confess that these past couple of weeks I have not been in the gym as much as my usual 5 - 6 times per week.  Work has been really hectic and it is nearly tax time (our deadline in Canada is April 30) - I do mine, hubby's, my son's and my Mom's so it gets a little crazy with paperwork all over the dining room table.  Now that I think about it - that's a good thing - it prevents me from making large Sunday dinners!  LOL!

I'm really happy that spring has arrived, the weather is improving and we are doing more outside activities in the sunshine.  Grilling season has started so I'll be looking for some new 17DD friendly recipes, I'll be sure to share what I find and hope to see many of yours as well.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi Writerchick,

Your starting weight was close to mine. I started at 236.7. I'm now 223.4. I haven't been under 200lbs since shortly after the birth of my second daughter, nearly 18 years ago. So as you know my first big goal is to get under that 200lb mark. I'm so happy for you that you got that far, it gives me hope that I can do it too. Emotionally, you sound right on track, as we all will hit plateaus and bumps now and then. With you it could be all the stress your under recently. Sounds hectic over there. I find that my weight-loss stalls when I'm over-stressed. Not only that, I've noticed that I retain more water weight when I'm under too much stress. This is another thing I've been working on since finding this program, work harder on finding ways to remove as much stress as possible!

Ah spring! This is a very good time to be losing weight with the summer coming and all those fresh fruits and veg's. We are BBQers here too and already have been firing up the grill, lol. Good luck to you and thanks again for your words of encouragement. I will make a "big post" when I reach that first big goal, that's for sure. I know that once I make it that far, there will be no stopping  me. Looking forward to your next blog :)

I had been on a bit of a plateau too and decided it was time to sit down for an hour and read the 17DD book again. It is so easy to start slipping up on the real essentials - lemon water in the morning, water/water/water all day, and even reminding myself about the health benefits of green tea. Once I tightened up a bit and drank a bunch more water, my plateau ended.

I have a confession...I hate herbal teas. The  only teas I would enjoy were black and Earl Grey, my particular favourite. I'm a big coffee drinker myself. So I was pleasantly surprised with the mild taste of 100% green tea. Now that I find I can drink no problem, and it gives a little caffeine boost as well. Luckily I've always been a water drinker, whew! But I can really sympathize with those that aren't since you need to be sipping pretty much all day.

I do find what helps keep me in check is staying close to this  website and the book. Like you said raddyrad, it's very easy to slip into a hole if you don't find ways to keep yourself sharp and on track. Good for you on your plateau ending success! Oh, btw I hate the lemon water too, uhhhhhg! Good thing it's only one cup first thing so I can get it over with, lol. I guess we all have our likes and dislikes. As long as we keep finding ways to deal with it and keep telling ourselves that it's a means to a wonderful, beautiful new us, then we will ok :)

I am stuck at 196, and I am also looking forward to the 80s.  I haven't actually ever measured.  I have just been using how my clothes fit.  AND I agree that the scale is not the only measure of success.  It is now nearing the end of April.  We are still all heading down.  That is a good thing.  If any of you are like I was, I would lose some weight, feel comfortable, then start eating again.  I think if we keep are heads in tune with our bodies, we will achieve success FOREVER!  So every pound off is good.  When the scale stalls, our bodies are still adjusting.  We just have to keep giving each other moral support.  So Congrats on your weight loss Lisa!

Plateau would be my second name! I lost 30 lbs on WW and it average only .5/week! But I stuck with it and I am working on my last 10-20. So don't let the plateau get to you - I once went a whole month with no cheats! Sometimes I think our bodies are making adjustments. Suddently you will drop 4!
