What will you do when you reach your goal?

I am so happy to read that so many of my friends are nearing their weight loss goals.  Some have said that while they are happy to reach their goal, they will miss the friendship and support they have found here.  It made me start to think about what I will do when I get to my goal, shop for sure - duh!  LOL!   But will I stop blogging, reading all the other blogs and offering my support?   It didn't take more than a second for me to realize that no, I won't stop blogging and trying to encourage others, it has become a very important part of my day and the wonderful people here have become my friends.  A real life friendship has been created due to this site, Vickie04 and I live quite close to one another and we started chatting on the phone to offer one another support and we met in person for the first time yesterday for lunch.  Yes - we were both good!  Salads and boneless chicken breasts and no wine!  LOL!  We'll save that for when we celebrate getting to our goal weights.

I wish we all lived close enough to meet.  Wouldn't that be a fine thing?  Imagine if we could have a 17 Day Diet Club reunion?  We'd have to alert the restaurant so they would have enough salad fixings and chicken breasts on hand!  Still, knowing that I now have friends all over Canada and the US that understand what I am going through, cheer on my successes and commiserate with me when I'm feeling low, that's a really special thing.  Everyone here has played a big part in the goals I have achieved so far, I don't think I could have come this far without the support and the inspiration I get from all of you.

Having said that, I know from bitter experience that losing the weight is only half of the battle.  Keeping it off is the other half.  So when I do hit my goal, I will stay here and I really hope everyone else does also.  I think learning from one another about how everyone is maintaining their goal weight is just as important as how they got there in the first place.

So you're stuck with me folks!  I'll be here for a long time.  This program - I'm trying to stop calling it a diet now, it is a lifelong eating program for me - has changed my life for the better and all of you have played a big part in that.  Thank you.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Lisa

I am so glad that you are going to stay on after you reach your goal.  I also plan on keeping up with the friendships by blogging.  AND I so agree with you that it is the maintaining that is so difficult in the past.  Maybe we could have a reunion after we reach goal.

I am going to a hockey tournamnet for my son's high school.  The team is going to state.  I am chaperoning the high school boys going to cheer.  My son is a great fan.  I think he wishes he would have played both soccer and hockey, but he never really learned to skate.  It should be very exciting.

Have a nice weekend!

I agree...post diet and moving into total life style change is not easy.  Like you, this blog really helps me.  Afterall, Weight Watchers does not have lifetime memberships for nothing...I'll be on until they turn it off.  I gave up Facebook, LinkedIn...this is my only social network, but it's been the best yet!

Hey, I think you may be on to something! Down the road, a 17DD Reunion would be great! I would love to meet a lot of the people that I have 'bared' my soul (and my pounds) with. LOL  It is important to me to come and read what's going on with everyone. It is encouraging to cheer for someone and also to know that I can come when I have a bad day and need some support....without any judgements!

I will stay on the blogs...and the 17DD. Do you remember that at the end of the book,  Dr. M makes it a point to let us know that this or this realm is a lifetime commitment.  It is a reminder that the world is bigger than any daily problems I may have had with food. Your relationship with food is what I am recognizing is more than just the bad food I eat. It is more about all of me. That lesson alone is priceless. I will be here...indefinitely!

I love to blog and read others blogs. Your blogs are always interested and usually hit home. How do we set up a time with everyone to actually chat? Is there a chat forum that I am missing? I would like to have some feedback even though I am enjoying the blogging immensely.

Hi Lisa, so you actually have a real name!!! I love coming here and reading everyone's successes and sometimes their weaknesses. We are all human and to be human is to error. There is no such thing as perfection, so if the best thing we can do is jump right back on the wagon after we have a slip up then the 17 Day Diet has done its job! I'm sure we can all relate to starting a diet, slipping up once and then saying, I screwed up now might as well eat the bag of cookies. If we are all still on this lifestyle change, we now see that as long as we hop back on we will have success!!! I love this site and Terri's also. It has been a great to have support, so definitely I will be staying here and supporting for a long time.

It will be great to add a blog once in a while once I reach my goal weight. It may help someone else get there and it will keep me on track and accountable as well. Love to keep in touch
