About Me

I am a proud single mom, of 2 grown children.  How do I know that?  Because my Christmas card from my son, told me all that I have done for him and his sister and that I should me mother of the year.  Boy, did that card make my day and is still sitting on my counter top ;).  I love my family, my church, and my life, even though at this time, I am disabled and unable to work.  That has taken some getting used to, but I see myself getting out of the house and into life...more ea. week.

way2much, I can really identify with your exercise dilemmas. I have some too. I've had a challenging 3 years since I turned 50, and my warranty ran out. I should be dead several times over, but by the grace of God, I'm still here. Obviously, I have some work to do. And don't feel bad about your real(medical) age being so much more than your chronological age--I had to add 17 years because of a heart attack, bilateral pulmonary embolism, and handfuls of meds. What I've done since I was discharged from cardiac rehab is the "Sit and be fit" program I found on PBS--maybe you have something like it? And as soon as I get over the fear of being caught dead in a swimsuit, I was going to sign up for senior's aquafit, even though I'm not a senior. There are ways around this exercise thing!

Hi Pennie--I'm glad that we are friends.  It feels good to know there are others who live nearby, that are going through this same program.  I am in Centreville, about an hr. away from Culpeper, but I come out that way several times a year.  In fact, my mom and I just came out to Culpeper, last week for antique shopping and dinner at Foti's.

Anyway, I'll be watching your posts and updates and will keep you in my prayers.

Laurie-Thanks for your response.  I am glad that you are beginning to think of  ways to exercise, according to what you are able to do.  I forgot to mention that another suggestion that my trainer had, was to use one of those large rubber exercise balls.  He said that all I have to do is to sit on it, while I am watching TV.  He said that by just sitting, you will strengthen your core muscles.  So, I am doing that...it's what I call my "EZ" exercise.  

I haven't been able to get the book yet, but I am hoping to et it next week.  I can't wait, since it only feels like I'm doing half the program right now.  If you have any suggestions about what to eat this 1st 17 days...I'd love anything I can get for the next few days.

Today was a difficult eating day, since I took my son out to lunch.  I did do one good thing, and that was to only eat half of the plate and saved the rest.  But still, I felt kind of guilty...and started to think of all the other meals that I could have had, that would have been healthier ;).  Anyway, I will do better tomorrow.

I'm still praying for you and my other friends...so stay strong, knowing that your have the strength that the Lord has given you and He says that He will never give us anything that He knows that we can't handle.

Hi way2much, Thank you so much for the suggestions.  I will try and not get discouraged by my physical ability.  I have been in great physical shape until this past year and can't seem to get moving.  After I had my kidney removed I was starting to exercise at the local cancer center.  We moved to another city this past summer and I had lost all my connections.  "You gave me an idea" I will ask my doctor if there is any kind of cancer rehab/exercise program in our area.  I will look for my bands and start using them again.  Thanks so much for the encouragement and ideas.  I have been on this journey (the 17 day diet) for 7 days now and I have lost 7 lbs.  I am thankful for the knowlege and pray that I can keep it up.  I hope you are doing well today and pray that you are healthy and active.  Laurie

Hi Laurie, I am happy that you are not being challenged by the food part of this program.   As for the exercise part of it, here is what I have told myself...If I am unable to do an exercise (or if I don't think I will keep up with them,) I do the exercises that I do know that I can and will do.  I figure exercises are all good for you and I do try to mix up the type of excersizes that I do and make sure I do both muscle training and some kind of aerobic.

My Dr. had me see a trainer that comes once a week to their offices and he was able to give me specific suggestions, for my situation.  He said that if I am watching these work out videos, but there is no way that I can do it, watch the video while sitting down.  Do the same type of exercises while sitting.  Also, while sitting or standing, use the various colored bands as well as hand held weights, to do weight training exercises.  

I hope that gives you something new to try.  I have to say, I have found the support part of this program, so helpful.  Both from this who have encouraged me as well as reading and writing to others.  So far, I have lost 3 lbs. in 5 days.  I hope you are finding the same affects ;).
