Does anyone have a child that is biplor? I do she is now 25 I could write a book about it . You would not beleave some of the stories of things she has done and still does. And to have a child of her own and have to go off her meds. All through school all they could say is she is a problem child she has ADD/ADHD and they put her on riddlin you dont put a child with biplor on riddlin. and the mood swings wanting to sleep all the time or want to cut herself or burn herself all the lieing and stealing the list goes on, to this day she does not understand why she must stay on her meds. She is always in trouble. Its hard because people don't understand just want it is or what it can do to that person or there family. We would have to sit on her till her fit was over and she started to cry. This child would feel no pain she could pound her head into the wall and not feel a thing. I have watched her burn herself and not feel one thing We would have to put dead bolt locks on the doors to keep her from getting out at night . She took our car one night so we called the police they came and waited till she came back and they tried to take her to jail some how she got out of the hand cuffs and knocked the officer on his ass and ran away. But she could never remember doing it. Playing with fire and knifs and always hurting herself . At school one day she made a fist and just pounded into the wall till shr broke her hand. And to this day I really can't remember her ever happy or have a smile on her face. She always wanted to be a nurse and work with crack babies. I still love my daughter and would do anything for her I just wish she could learn to love who she is and work on tring to give herself a better life. She thinks the only person she is hurting is herself but she's not she is hurting everyone who loves her. And as a mom I can't fix things . sorry for spelling i'm tired and i finger type with one hand while holding up my head LOL.

Good Morning veronica, It is a shame that they have said that about young people. I am glad that they have found out a bout bi-polor. I have a couple of friends who are bi-polor,one of them the meds work great. The other one it took them some time to figure ut and have to change her meds all the time. They have explained it to me as chemicals missing in their brain, and the meds help activate what they need to function normal.
My one friend hates to stay on the meds, she is not comfortable being out of her comfort zone. I have heard of some new naturl meds maybe go on the internet and see what you can find out. And I am sure you will get alot of post here .

Veronica,my heart goes out to you.You with your problems and your daughters. My nephew is a paranoid schizophrenic and I have seen what he goes through(Hes 34yrs old) the mood swings, hearing voices, not wanting to take his meds.Sometimes he will drink to make the voices go away.He still lives at home with my Brother and sister-in-law cause he could not manage on his own. They get to the point at times they just want to run away. You have got to be a saint to handle the problems everyday! Its very sad though people with extreme problems know they have not much chance at a future.I think there should be some kind of a law which can make an adult take the meds,if they could harm themself or others. I also suffer a milder case of mental illness I had it about 13yrs now,I went though alot of different meds til I found the right ones for me.Its still a struggle for me everyday.Winter time is really bad for me,I miss alot of work, and when I get in a mood I just want to hide from the world.I wish there something I could say to make it go away, except be there for her, love and support even if she doesnt want you to be.If you ever want to talk,I understand what you are going through and I am here. Yvonne
Hello, I actually stopped by this site since today was the first day I was able to watch the show. Anyway, looking through the blogs etc. I came across this one about Bipolar. Not meaning to come across rude or anything but you guys need to get your information straight. Maybe have your daughters doc sit down and explain it to you, or you can get literature at your local library or book store. People with Bipolar are not missing a chemical in their brains, they have a chemical imbalance. Bipolar is no different then having diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. With all these medical conditions if you don't take your medication you of course will have problems. The only thing that is making Bipolar out to be something horrible is the media and Lawyers using it to get their clients off on a lighter sentence, since it is considerd a mental disorder.
Hello Sugar, welcome I hold nothing against anyone with bi-polor. I know it is a chemical imbalanced.Sorry I had worded it wrong. I don't consider it mental illness in the sense of the word. I beleive many are being helped with meds,And I realize it is tuff on the person and their familys. I also know it may take time for them to get the right meds. I also beleive some times bi-polor can steam from some of pot tramatic syndrome. War,Sexual abuse, and many other issues.

ADHD can often mimic Bipolar my daughter age 14 has ADHD an I often have to scratch my head and remember that it's adhd she has cause her mood changes often.
It all sounds too familiar. I too have a daughter who has Bipolar. It all started when she was in the 5th grade. As the years went on and after MANY hospitalizations we found she not only had Bipolar but Post tramatic stress, severe depression and possibly borderline personality disorder. We have been told that once that person hits their late 20's they start to level out. I hope thats true but she is getting into so much trouble that I am afraid she won't be able to enjoy that time as a free person because of the STUPID mistakes she chooses to make! I was blaming myself for all of her troubles until I found others who were in my situation. I now have a great support system and a better understanding of Bipolar and what she is going through and that I did raise her well. It is just her disease.
