Doctor Masterson, THANK YOU for standing up for women and aging today (6/25/09).
You made extremely good points. I am so glad you stood firm !
To paraphrase: menopause is NOt a disease, menopause and aging
are not terrible stages of life, and that hormones are not toxic.
I found Dr. Braverman's comments 'hysterical', ironically !
It was more a raving and ranting. He tried to aging sound like an awful phase of life,
mainly, it seems to sell his book. What a huckster.
AGING IS NOT TERRIBLE ! Women can have new freedom, different priorities, different goals ,
new opinions, new relationships with THEMSELVES and with others. lMenopause is NOT the end of life,
but a time to reevaluate your life, begin a new phase.
Yes, one goes through changes that are at times bewildering
and frustrating. Like 'life!' These are times to challenge old thinking and find NEW meaning .
I am 66 years old, have taken no hormones, ever. My 91 year old mother took none.
I am grateful for this wonderful part of my life.
I cannot recall (oh, dear !) who said this, but the words are like this:
"Everything old is new again."
Thank you for letting me share my views.
Thriftydabbler

I can't believe THE DOCTORS would have such a man on speaking down to menopausal women. He could learn a little sensitivity. It just felt terrible to be referred to as shrivelled up and like a hunk of meat marbled with fat. It is just that kind of attitude that turns people off to the male medical profession. And to put it on TV makes it seem like "that's the way it is". I am so glad that Dr. Lisa stood up to him and kept questioning the way he was presenting menopause. I hate doctors who talk down like he did.
I completly agree I was very upset by what he said.
I think every point in our life is a new experience that we learn how to care for our selves and what we need to be healthy.
I watched this program also and am going through menopause and I really dont
understand why some people got so upset over what Dr. Braverman said. I think he was simply trying to explain to women
what their body's go through during this time in our lives. I don't think any one should take it personal. I would like to
find the Menopause Support pills that he was showing. Any one know anything about where to get these? Didn't the lady
he treated look great!
