lap-band

Hello there.  This is the first time I wrote in so I  hope I am doing it correclty.  In a month or so I am getting a lap-band.  "for weight loss"  I am getting more nervous as the time gets closer.  I have not talked to anyone who has undergone the procedure.  I was just wondering if anyone out there has been through this or has any words of wisdom before I go under the knife.  Thanks so much.  God bless-

Hi there.  I know 2 people who had this procedure and are doing very well now.  You said you do not know anyone who has had this done, who referred you to the doctor doing the procedure?  My only advice is to make sure that this doctor is good (how many successful procedures has he/she done?).  Also, I would strongly suggest before any surgery to invest in white cotton sheets and clothes (I would wash these using bleach as an extra precaution to prevent infection).  Best of luck to you!

Hi, I had a friend that had the lap band surgery. She did real good after she realized

that she had to cut way back on her food intake. The last time I was around her she

was eating a lot of junk food, She had lost a considerable amount of weight and she

was hoping to get the skin taken care of as soon as she lost all the weight that she

wanted. She was gonna get a breast reduction also, they are huge. If you are in good

health you shouldn't have any problems, best of luckto you.       Sludge

My friend had the lap band --- he was 27 years old. He had it on a Monday and the next Sunday he died and they could not tell us why. So Best of luck to you.

WOW RN HOW DIRECT!~

Focus on the positive events which you will be doing for getting this surg!

I had a full gastric bypass in 1999  Yes it helped me get the weight off but even to this day I have become vitamen defiecent!  Please do what your doc says and please take your vitamens and DONT LISTEN TO STUPID PEOPLE WHO ARE TRYING TO SCARE YOU...

They must really really hate themselves!

Dear Tammy~

You sound hesitatant about the surgery. Thankfully, you've decided on LapBand instead of

gastric bypass. I was once 265 pounds and I am 4 foot 11 inches. I researched a long time the gastric bypass and the lap band surgeries. I decided after trying the Atkin's, the SLim Fast, etc. to just do calories in versus calories out method and it worked. You have to be patient, it took me a year and I am at my ideal weight of 120 pounds and I have excess skin which I may in time have suegery for, but I went from a size 26 to a size 6.

You can do this without any surgery, I have low thyroid and I used to have high blood pressure. If I can do this, anyone can....but if you still insist on having the surgery, good luck to you and just be careful, because you will have gag reflex if you eat too much- one of my co workers had this done. It IS possible to stretch the banding too, and become larger again. It is not a "cure "
