it does sound like fibro.  I have fibro and i suffer from pain in my neck hips shoulders and other joints.  If your doctor does not refer you to an arthritis doctor look for one because they check out the pressure points and help you find what medications maybe helpful.

wow.. maybe another possilbe individual with a Vit D deficiency.   You should have yours checked.

I should add... you should go read larisalle's blog.  Great info on Vit d.. or mine.  lol..

my sister and i have been suffering from pains like this for years.   I have been to SOoo many dr.s.. thru soooo many tests.. to finally be diagnosed with fibro.  i actually self diagnosed, but my dr agreed.  I suspect she just wanted to get rid of me.  i was then treated for fibro for years.   then i found out my sister had a similar issue.  her dr tested her for vit d.  she was very deficient.   she was treated for that and now feels great!!!  i recently found out that i am vit d deficient too.   i just stated with my 50000mg per wk.  I hope once the 12 wks is up that i will feel a world of diff better.  i have high hopes now.

Thanks, Annon, for your nice comment about my vit D info.  Sunlea, I just added a section about guaifenesin for chronic pain as suggested by my chronic pain doctors.  Definitely get your vitamin D tested and take my "tips for your doctor" to your doctor to make sure you get the right treatment if you are deficient.  And, if you have already looked at my (long) profile, go back and take a look at the new section on guaifenesin.  New research suggests that this substance (originally from the bark of a type of tree) may provide pain relief for chronic pain, specifically fibromyalga.  But don't just take the guaifenesin -- get your vitamin D checked, get it treated, then look into the guaifenesin for additional help.  If you have any questions, please let me know.  Larissa

Unfortunately, it does sound like fibromyalgia.  Your family doctor should give you a consultation to see a rhematologist to start looking into some medications that will help you. But from personal experience I have had it for over 20 years and nothing has helped me. I have just learmed to live with the pain and live life the best that I can.

Hi Sunlea,

I have had fibromyalgia since 1993 and at that time most doctors didn't even believe it existed.  I was the human guinea pig. I had to try so many different presciptions before they got it right. For me, sleep is the most criticle part of this disease. If I don't sleep I relapse. I tend to get stressed out very easy due to my job so the second most important thing for me is exercise.  My doctor even said that even if you can only take a walk for ten minutes it helps.  I started working out only ten minutes a day and eventually I was able to increase it to 45 minutes. Lastly, the third most important thing for me is diet. Any kind of junk food or refined sugars is horrible for you. This is the hardest part for me since I love junk food more than I love food. I am 42 and I weigh 145lbs, I am too young to feel too old. Unfortunately, I am still on 40mg of muscle relaxers every night for sleep and muscle relaxation, and it is incredibly hard to get up in the morning but it does help. I started with 10mg and it has increased over the years. I did try the new drug Lyrica for 6 months however, my feet, hands and actually my whole body swelled, but I felt the best I ever had.  I know this all sounds bad but seriously, once you have it under control you can fight it and eventually not hurt as much if at all. I also just found out about a natural drup called Ribose. Look it up, it is found at most good food stores or vitamin outlets and it is suppose to help with the tiredness and muscle pain, but make sure you look up the drug interactions and talk to your doctor before you take it. One more thing, ask for an appointment with a Rheumatologist, they are best equipped for diseases of this nature. I hope this helps alittle.

Nikie, please, please, please get your vitamin D blood level checked!!!!!  This is probably the basis of your health problems.  I'm guessing that you have a level below 5 ng/ml.  You should be 40-60 ng/ml at a bare minimum based on the latest research.  Get your level tested and either let me know what it is so I can help you educate your doctor about treating a vitamin D deficiency, and/or look at my profile.  The three most important sections for you are My Symptoms, Tips to Take to your Doctor, and the section on Guaifenesin.
